LIANG ZI

FOUNDER AND DESIGN DIRECTOR OF TANGY COLLECTION

As a fashion design graduate, Liangzi is a an eco-pioneer in the fashion industry considered by Harper’s Bazaar (China) and won China’s Golden Top Award – the highest fashion design award in the country in 2007. Her own fashion brand TANGY and TANGY Collection, meaning the will of nature, is founded in 1994 with her husband. Between 1999 and 2001, she studied in Paris (Ecole de la Chambre Syndicate et de la Couture Parisienne) and New York (Fashion Institute of Technology). In 2005, she pursued further study in London (Central Saint Martins). She rediscovered Gambiered Guangdong Silk, as a Chinese intangible cultural heritage, also one of China's finest and top-grade silk, known as soft gold. For nearly three decades, she has continued to devote to making the public know beauty of this fabric and convey an eco-friendly and understated elegant lifestyle.

Gambiered Silk, also called Liangchou, is an all-natural fabric from Guangdong Province, China. As a Chinese intangible cultural heritage, it has followed the traditional processing technique for over two thousand years. We rediscovered this eco-friendly fabric in 1995. Since then, Liang Zi has been designing with this silk from scratch and engaging to the Gambiered Guangdong Silk’s sustainable development research. In 2008, the Gambiered Silk was enlisted as a Chinese national intangible cultural heritage with TANGY Collection’s efforts. TANGY Silk is a series of new natural fabric developed by TANGY Collection with the new technique and concept, based on the Gambiered Silk and its traditional plant-based dyeing process.
