Liang Zi, a renowned Chinese fashion designer and a pioneer in sustainable fashion, founded the TANGY brand in 1994 and TANGY Collection in 2008.
In 1995, she was the first to rediscover the nearly extinct Gambiered Guangdong Silk (Xiang Yun Silk), also known as “soft gold,” a treasured silk with a rich history. Enthusiastic about natural fabrics, Liang Zi fell in love with this ancient silk, known for its contrasting colors on either side, smooth texture, and unique plant and mineral-based dyeing technique. Drawing from the philosophy of the harmony between humanity and nature, the concept “Tian Ren He Yi” in Chinese, she has ingeniously crafted a modern fashion line infused with Eastern aesthetics.
After 30 years of dedication, Gambiered Guangdong Silk has become synonymous with the TANGY brand. In recognition of her contributions, Harper’s Bazaar named Liang Zi as an “Eco-Master” of the fashion world in 2007. For 15 consecutive years, her high-end brand, TANGY Collection, has been used as a teaching case for sustainable luxury fashion at prestigious institutions such as the Institut Français de la Mode. In 2019, Liang Zi opened “Maison Liangzi,” a cultural experience space on the Left Bank of Paris, marking a new chapter for the internationalization of Chinese sustainable fashion.
Born in Jiangnan, Liang Zi graduated in 1990 with a degree in fashion design from Xi’an Polytechnic University. After founding her brand, she furthered her studies at the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in Paris, the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and Central Saint Martins in London. Since 2014, she has been living in Paris.
