The TANGY Silk is a new fabric developed by TANGY, based on the Gambiered Silk and its traditional plant-based dyeing process.
The TANGY Silk is a top quality all-natural silk with silk as the base. It derives its unique colours and patterns from the extract of wild dioscorea cirrhosa and a 30-step process that involves plant-based dyeing, sun-drying and coating the fabric with unpolluted river mud.
TANGY rediscovered this all natural and eco-friendly fabric (made only in China) in 1995. Since then, Liang Zi has been designing award-winning fashion styles with the Gambiered Guangdong silk from scratch and devoting herself to the research and sustainable development of the Gambiered Guangdong Silk. In 2008, the Gambiered Silk was enlisted as a Chinese national intangible cultural heritage with TANGY’s efforts. After that, TANGY built a protection base, TANGY Silk Garden, for the intangible cultural heritage – the Gambiered Guangdong Silk.
The history of the Gambiered Silk dates back to two thousand years ago. Due to the medicinal value of the plant-based dye of “dioscorea”, the Gambiered Silk has always been a top-grade silk for its anti-bacterial and anti-allergic qualities. Suitable for hand-wash, the fabric will become softer and more comfortable to wear after a few washes. Aesthetically, the Gambiered Silk is brown on one side and black on the other with tortoiseshell patterns thanks to its pure natural and hand-dyeing process, making every piece of Gambiered Silk unique.
